The Hawaiian monk seal, Monachus schauinslandi, is a critically endangered species and this one was born and raised on a remote northern part of the Big Island. He is still very young and adventurous. Apparently he is getting used to human activities and started causing some troubles like occupying the boat ramp. Full story is posted here: Hawaiian Monk Seal of the Anniversary '09.

There were a few more memorable pictures to go with our anniversary. Magnificent great frigatebird, Fregata minor, baby spinner dolphin jump, Stenella longirostris longirostris, and good looking oceanic whitetip shark, Carcharhinus longimanus, with pilot fish, Naucrates ductor. Continued from the Hawaiian monk seal story, short behind-the-scene stories are posted chronologically: Kona Resident Great Frigatebird of the Anniversary '09, Hawaiian Spinner Dolphin Baby Jump of the Anniversary '09, Oceanic Whitetip Shark with Pilot Fish of the Anniversary '09.

In addition, lots of humpback whale breaches, Megaptera novaeangliae, from this season! Sorry about too many similar pictures. I tried but was incapable of choosing, so decided to have you choose the best. I personally love the one with Haleakala of Mauin in the background, and those breaching pictures shot from the very low angle.

The color saturation and contrast of those breaching shots were outstanding as they were shot on a clear, vog-less sunny day. Nowadays such days are very rare around Hawaii. A short story is posted here: Humpback Whale Breaching Extravaganza!

Finally processed some pretty pictures of Hawaii's treasure, Hanauma Bay of Oahu as per clients' request. It was a gorgeous morning to look at the bay. An introductory story is posted here: Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve - A Fragile Treasure of Hawaii.
